About

“A word after a word after a word is power.” – Margaret Atwood

Welcome to the word factory! Each month we roll them out in a different package. Poetry, short stories, flash fiction, memoir, novels, essays, prayers, song lyrics, grocery lists. You name it.

Here’s how it works. A new writing project and an ambitious goal for each month of the year. Something that forces you to write every day and keep writing, without looking back. Something that gets you out of your comfort zone. Write 30 poems in April. Write 30 stories in May. Write 30 literary journalism sketches like the ones in reporter Ben Hecht’s book A Thousand and One Afternoons in Chicago. Spend 30 days doing all of the writing exercises in Natalie Goldberg’s memoir-starter, Old Friend from Far Away. Write a book for National Novel Writing Month. You get the idea.

Editing, polishing, killing our darlings. That comes later. For the next 12 months we WRITE WORDS NOW. If you like to write, please join me for a project or two. Or twelve!
